LO3/LO4- Social media campaign mind maps

Practice section A 23rd of November

1 (a)   Identify  three  benefits of using a business networking app. One advantage of using business working apps is that you can hire personnel and staff and crowdsourcing apps. Another advantage of using business  networking apps is the ability meet with your team. This will allow you to arrange when and what your personnel is doing at a certain time.  Business networking apps allow you potentially fund a project if the public like your idea. This can be achieved by adding your project to a crowdfunding site. (b)    Explain  two  ways that using a microblogging app can be beneficial for prosumers.  Use specific examples to support your answers. A microblogging app is a platform where people can publicly message other users while also sharing media content. An example of this is Twitter. Twitter can help prosumers promote a product they have made by using hashtags to create a mini conversation about their work. Also,

LO3/LO4- Social media marketing campaign

Section B: A release of a new product or service (Always to do with digital media) is briefed and we need to promote and market that product for a company using a variety of methods and platforms.  The objectives of this social media campaign are...

Task 4: Legal and Ethical- Cultural

Cultural censorship of social media and the impact on media production (e.g. China, North Korea, Turkey) Countries with dictatorships don't allow media to publicly criticize governments unlike the United Kingdom with their free press. They also don't want their citizens having access to western culture so they have their own social media and don't have allow people to use Twitter and Facebook etc. China use social media such as WeChat and Weiboi. The Chinese equivalent of YouTube is called TuDou. This impacts media production as film posters maybe different in certain countries depending on the social norms so for example, a female superhero cannot have revealing clothing in countries such as Saudi Arabia as that is frowned upon in their country. Bias and ideology (e.g. in terms of cultural distinction of social norms and marketing practice) Bias is when you favour one point of view over another. If you have an ideology, you have a specific belief and have certain values.

Media regulation means the monetization of mass online content on social media platforms from media regulators such as IPSO and Ofcom. Regulation links to social media as regulators such as IPSO and Ofcom will look at posts on social media to protect audiences.  Media regulation links to the moral panics theory.

Explain why personnel should be mindful of what they put on social media?

Personnel should be mindful about what they put on social media as it can result in the person losing their job if they harshly criticise the company they work for or the job they do. This is the case for Kaitlyn Walls as she posted on Facebook that she hates being around kids and hated her job role as a employee in a day care centre. Subsequently, the day care centre fired her from her job understandably as you don’t want someone working in that environment who doesn’t want to be there. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/05/04/day-care-employee-fired-for-facebook-post-noting-she-hates-being-around-a-lot-of-kids/

LO2: Legal and ethical- Regulation

Regulation- Data Protection act, self-regulation, freedom of speech versus inciting hate speech, injunctions, ISP role. Freedom of speech versus inciting hate speech is where you are free to have an opinion  Role of regulatory bodies- Independent Press Standards Organisation IPSO, Ofcom in production of online content. Personnel and sharing of online complaints- Staff complaints on social media.    I think that internet service providers should have a responsibility to block sites and content that will cause offence to people and doesn't have a point behind the post.  https://hbr.org/2021/01/are-we-entering-a-new-era-of-social-media-regulation This article talks about the new regulation of social media after Donald Trump was banned on Twitter.

The proliferation of social media links to advantages and disadvantages of social media and means the amount of social media online. Ofcom and Ipso monitor online content on social media. Self regulation is where you monitor your own posts and you ensure you do not posts anything you shouldn't. If I company posts something offensive they could have their account banned or suspended for a certain amount of time.

Unit 6 Social media and globalisation 3rd of novemember

The long tail theory tells us that we access an infinite amount media due to the impact of social media and the internet. This means we can find a more specific search that are suited to are niche audiences. For example, in someone wanted to buy a CD from HMV then they have maybe the top 20 available to them but now you can access the music from a whole plethora of artists thanks to how social media allows smaller artists to post music for people to hear. Due to social media we can now share comments about artists or films.

Task 2: Legal and ethical- disadvantages of social media use

Image
Moral panic is a theory that can be used to describe the way in which the mass media create folk devils out of products or groups of people. Fake News is the way in which unauthorized or untrue news sources that are spread virally using social media. Trolling/Cyberbullying are terms used to describe the way that celebrities/individuals are targeted online in a negative way. Negative body image/unrealistic expectations is way in which social media and online technologies can be used to promote false lifestyles, which can be damaging to mental health of teenagers.  An example of this is Bukayo Saka being racially abused as he missed a penalty in the EURO 2020 finals which cost England.  Hafthor Bjornsson, AKA Thor, is a strongman who admitted to using steroids to achieve his goals.  Negative publicity for brands and companies, viral memes which are made to make fun of something for comedic effect. Parodies, sarcasm are all problems for large brands. Cultural impact- Prolife...

The long tail theory (Chris Anderson, 2004)

The long tail theory is a theory that can be used to describe the way in which new technologies have enabled audiences to have choice over the amount of media they can access. Not just mass/popular, but niche. Initially written baed on music streaming, it now can be applied to video on demand and streamed media. Through recommendation systems (Web 3.0 or the semantic web) niche products are often promoted.  I have gathered that the long tail theory tells us that we access an infinite amount media due to the impact of social media and the internet. This means we can find a more specific search that are suited to are niche audiences. For example, in someone wanted to buy a CD from HMV then they have maybe the top 20 available to them but now you can access the music from a whole plethora of artists thanks to how social media allows smaller artists to post music for people to hear.

What do the terms crowdfunding and crowdsourcing mean?

Crowdfunding is where people donate money to producers so they can fund a project that they shared on a crowdfunding site such as kickstarter.  Crowdsourcing is the process of gathering staff and professionals to help make your products. An example  of this is the website Linkedin.  An electronic agora is an online meeting place. This can be project management tools such as Microsoft Teams or social media. Web utopianism is the idea that using social media is beneficial for humanity.

Section A assessment review work

Section A  1 (a) Identify three possible problems media producers might face when using Twitter to market a digital media product Twitter is microblogging app that has limited characters per tweet. Twitter is a very popular social media channel.  Digital producers do use Twitter.  This is a problem as when marketing a product, you need to describe the product and give information about it which may take more words than the allocated amount.  There are many competitors on Twitter who might market their product better which means your audiences attention is elsewhere.   You need to build up followers to reach your target audience which is quite difficult on a busy social media channel such as Twitter.  (b) Explain one way that social media has contributed to a change in the way music is distributed. Streaming services- social media can give links to streaming content and video on demand content. Traditional distribution, physical...
