Section A assessment review work

Section A

1 (a) Identify three possible problems media producers might face when using Twitter to market a digital media product

Twitter is microblogging app that has limited characters per tweet.
Twitter is a very popular social media channel.
Digital producers do use Twitter.

This is a problem as when marketing a product, you need to describe the product and give information about it which may take more words than the allocated amount.

There are many competitors on Twitter who might market their product better which means your audiences attention is elsewhere.

You need to build up followers to reach your target audience which is quite difficult on a busy social media channel such as Twitter.

(b) Explain one way that social media has contributed to a change in the way music is distributed.

Streaming services- social media can give links to streaming content and video on demand content.
Traditional distribution, physical copies.
Consumers can produce and post their own music that they created.

There has been a change in how music has been distributed as prior to social media, people had physical copies of music such as CDs but now you can access music digitally. An example of this is that a CD selling shop such as HMV is getting less customers as people are now listening to music online

(c) Explain two ways that social media can be linked to the change between the digital and traditional global distribution of media products.

Awareness of a product spread quickly on social media
Globalisation, world is getting smaller, global village
Products are available online so can be shared for purchase more easily.

The global village has allowed people from around the world to access media products online so media companies will distribute their products across the world as they know it reach their target audience.

Also, the awareness of a product is spread quickly on social media which means that audiences will learn about it and therefore potentially go and purchase it.

Section A 2

1 (a) Identify three ways that social media allows producers to collaborate when working on a project

Crowdfunding- ideas for designs may catch another producers eye.
Crowdsourcing
Prosumers
Global collaboration

Crowdfunding means that a producer could see what another producers project is on a platform like kickstarter and share the links onto social media.

(b) Explain one way that globalisation can support the production of media product

Globalisation, sharing of ideas
Sharing and making profits globally.
Using platforms like cloud 9 allows people to use someone else's work to help them make their own product.

Globalisation can support the production of media products as people who upload work onto platforms such as cloud 9 can allow other producers to use their work in a collaboration so another product is produced.

2) Identify two social media channels that can be used by a commercial media company, Explain how each can be used to advertise the company's product. Use examples to support your answer.

Making a profit- shared to be purchased, access to larger audiences, reach specific audiences
Warner brothers is a commercial media company.

Instagram can be used by a company such as Disney to post trailers to a new film they are releasing. This will give audiences a teaser to the new film therefore encouraging consumers to see the film at final release. This will bring in more income as people will go to the cinema to watch it.

Also, Twitter can be used by a media company such as Netflix to tell their audience about a new TV show. Netflix may announce certain actors performing in the series which will attract the audiences of the actors.

3 (a) Explain one way that social media can be used to communicate ideology.

Cultural imperialism- Where one culture may take over another culture due to social media and the spreading of trends.
Web 2.0
Instant communication
Ideology- Peoples points of view and opinions.

Social media can spread ideology because platforms such as Twitter are very opinionated so a user will post their thoughts and beliefs on a certain matter publicly for others to comment and interact with. This happens a lot more when an influencer or someone with a large following posts an opinion that maybe unpopular or controversial, due to the large amount of interactions it will be a talking point amongst a lot of people therefore maybe forcing that ideology.

(b) Explain two advantages of using online project management tools for media producers, use examples to support your answer

Save time
Prevent hard drive loss
Don't have to attend live meetings
Organise documentations
Schedule meetings
Instant share/transfer

Online project managements tools such as Monday.com allows producers to save files who saves hard drive space on their computer. Also, project management tools like Microsoft Teams allows team members to schedule meetings online instead of in person which could save time.
