Task 2: Legal and ethical- disadvantages of social media use

Moral panic is a theory that can be used to describe the way in which the mass media create folk devils out of products or groups of people.

Fake News is the way in which unauthorized or untrue news sources that are spread virally using social media.

Trolling/Cyberbullying are terms used to describe the way that celebrities/individuals are targeted online in a negative way.

Negative body image/unrealistic expectations is way in which social media and online technologies can be used to promote false lifestyles, which can be damaging to mental health of teenagers. 

An example of this is Bukayo Saka being racially abused as he missed a penalty in the EURO 2020 finals which cost England. 

Hafthor Bjornsson, AKA Thor, is a strongman who admitted to using steroids to achieve his goals. 

Negative publicity for brands and companies, viral memes which are made to make fun of something for comedic effect. Parodies, sarcasm are all problems for large brands.

Cultural impact- Proliferation of social media cultural imperialism and promotion/obsession with celebrity culture and commodities.












A commodity is commercial product that you can buy or sell.
