Task 2 LO1: Purposes and uses of social media channels
The name of the media conglomerate I will be analysing is Disney. Disney is known for making some of the most famous films whether its animated fiction stories for kids like Snow White and Aladdin or intense action films for an older audience. In addition they create music, video games and web portals so they are involved in almost all media industries. This is produced by a subsidiary to Disney which is called Disney production who make the films and prepare them for distribution. Disney have many subsidiaries such as Disney plus who are a subscription based company that distributes the films that are made by other subsidiaries of Disney and Disney themselves. Disney plus is available worldwide as Disney is a global brand. This means it will reach all audiences so they can get more viewers fro their products which they spent a lot of money on. People in Japan, USA, UK and Spain can all access films like Aladdin in their countries through paying a a subscription fee to Disney plus and then they have access to the shows available. The audience can access the products made by Disney by using Disney plus where all films are distributed and available to watch. An example of a film Disney produced is Snow White. This contains stereotypical perceptions of characters in the film industry as Snow White is a princess who needs to rescued by a male hero. This seems to be the typical plot in fiction films especially animated fantasy movies. The idea of class is represented as the evil in the story is the evil queen which could highlight how people with a higher status have more power and control. Also, as the queen in Snow White is represented as ‘evil’, it could show how the rich look down upon ones who are poorer than them and are not very pleasant people. Sexuality is represented as the love interest of Snow White is a heterosexual male named Prince Florian. This is expected as the era in which Snow White was released (1937) same sex relationships were frowned upon so the almost all relationships were opposite genders. Additionally, it is stereotypical for the Princess to marry a Prince therefore enhancing the idea of sexuality.
